Excerpt: A second report, by the Atkinson Centre for Society and Child Development, points out there are other important benefits to early childhood education: It reduces inequalities that result from poverty and decreases the number of children in special education classes by identifying problems and intervening early; Better education helps to reduce skills shortages and spending on health and social services down the road; These in turn help to reduce income inequality and lead to a stronger society and economy."

Excerpt: When the first Early Childhood Education Report was released in 2011, only three Canadian jurisdictions made it past the halfway mark on the report's 15-point scale. Today, Quebec and Prince Edward Island are tied for first place with 10 points, while four other provinces—New Brunswick, Ontario, Manitoba and British Columbia—scored above 7.
